Activision Blizzard is one of the biggest participants when it comes to Esports Leagues, the game publisher runs so many successful franchises so there is no surprise for more to be coming along the way. The latest news coming from the Call of Duty scene, Call of Duty is one of the most successful franchises and Esports to date, with new games coming out year upon year and the game having such a successful and large following there is no surprise that new things are looking to impact the Esports scene.
Activision Blizzard announced that there are five franchises lined up for the new city-based Call of Duty Esports league. The cities you may be familiar with if you follow the Overwatch League, the cities that are to host the franchise teams are: Atlanta, Dallas, New York, Paris and Toronto.
The chief executive of Activision Blizzard Bobby Kotick had this to say, “The upcoming launch of our new Call of Duty esports league reaffirms our leadership role in the development of professional esports. We have already sold Call of Duty teams in Atlanta, Dallas, New York, Paris and Toronto to existing Overwatch League team owners, and we will announce additional owners and markets later this year, our owners value our professional, global city-based model, the success we have had with broadcast partners, sponsors and licensees, and the passion with which our players have responded to our events.”
The cities are partnering with the existing Overwatch League teams’ owners. The teams are:
⦁ Atlanta Esports Ventures, owned by Cox Enterprises
⦁ Envy Gaming Esports (Dallas Fuel)
⦁ New York’s Sterling.VC
⦁ C0tact Gaming (Paris)
⦁ Toronto’s OverActive Media
The company beat the outlook of the earnings which was announced at being $1.715 billion, surprisingly being down from the same period a year ago which was $2billion. The quarterly earnings for this period came to $1.825billion
