Rocket League has come up leaps and bounds in the past year, becoming more prominent in the Esports scene and the game seems to be rising in popularity once again. So why are fans of the game concerned for the future of the game? The well know developers Epic Games are looking to acquire Psyonix Rocket League.
But why are fans disappointed? With the comings news fans took to their keyboard to express their dislike to towards the sell-out of the game, content creators also shown their concern for the game’s future, not only that but people bombarded the Steam version of Rocket League with a wave of dislikes.
The FAQ left players wondering whether the developer was out of touch, with their initial statement starting off being: “Your first question to news like this might be, ‘What does this mean for Rocket League and its community?’ We’re happy to say that the answers are only positive.”
The developer had to then make it clear to players who had already purchased the game on Steam that it would be still available on there, in an interview with Variety Epic Games said that DLC and updates will continue to reach the Steam community. Yet it wasn’t made clear whether the game would become an Epic Games exclusive.
With my reaction to this is somewhat on the opposite spectrum of players, I have seemed to of joined the rebellion when it comes to my opinion. The change itself seems it can outweigh the cons, from the success Epic Games has had with Fortnite, it seems them taking the reins of an already popular game and being able to give it not only the budget but a bigger audience can only seem better, however time will really tell the future of Rocket League.
